New specialist at Carlinville Area Hospital's Specialty Clinic

William D. Payne, M.D., a specialist in orthopedic surgery, recently joined Carlinville Area Hospital’s Consulting Medical Staff. Dr. Payne will be available on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month to see patients in the hospital’s Specialty Clinic. He is affiliated with Springfield Clinic and he specializes in spine and cervical problems.

Dr. Payne received his medical degree from SIU School of Medicine, Springfield, where he also completed his residency program in Orthopedic Surgery. Most recently, he has completed a fellowship in Spine Surgery at Rocky Mountain Spine Clinic in Lone Tree, Colorado.

Dr. Payne reminds everyone to be careful with their backs, particularly with the approach of fall yard cleanup and winter snow shoveling. Back pain has many causes, but back strain is the most common and can be brought on by lifting too much, twisting in an odd manner, or overdoing common chores.

For more information about back pain, make plans to join Dr. Payne for an informative, free lecture at Carlinville Area Hospital. On Thursday, October 9 at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Payne will present, “Down in the Back: Understanding Low Back Pain.” The program is open to the public and anyone interested in attending is encouraged to pre-register by calling 854-3141, extension 532.

Visit www.springfieldclinic.com for more information about Dr. Payne or contact the Hospital’s Outpatient Services Department at 217-854-3141 ext. 250. Dr. Payne is accepting new patients and appointments are being scheduled for November.
