Carlinville Area Hospital announced today that is has acquired a new, advanced Computed Tomography Scanner from GE Healthcare. The BrightSpeed offers the latest in “multi-slice” CT technology along with clinical applications that will allow Carlinville Area Hospital’s physicians to quickly and accurately perform multiple diagnostic exams. These exams help diagnose disease or life-threatening illness such as chest pain, stroke and cardiovascular disease.
With the exceptional image quality, productivity and reliability found in GE’s CT products, Carlinville Area Hospital’s physicians are now able to offer quality care right in the patient’s hometown. The system was installed November 2006.
“Our acquisition of the BrightSpeed, 16 Slice CT Scanner raises the level of care that our physicians can provide for a multitude of injuries or illnesses which may lessen the need to transfer critically ill patients to other hospitals away from their family and friends,” said Charles Neal, Chairman of Radiology, Carlinville Area Hospital. “This system is patient friendly and its speed of producing accurate scans will help our physicians to begin treating patients by helping them to provide the diagnosis or cause of illness in a shorter period of time than previously possible at Carlinville Area Hospital.
The high resolution imaging capabilities of BrightSpeed lets physicians optimize dose to the patient while at the same time gathering required diagnostic information that may reduce the need for additional, and sometimes uncomfortable, procedures. With advanced data processing features, patient information can be quickly shared with referring physicians, including three-dimensional (3-D) renderings of internal organs. “As the first hospital in a tri-county area which would include Montgomery, Macoupin, and Greene Counties to offer this technology, Carlinville Area Hospital is on the leading edge of providing excellent patient care that benefits both patients and physicians,” said Ken Reid, CEO/President of Carlinville Area Hospital. “We are proud to once again raise the level of excellence in the healthcare services offered to the residents of Carlinville and our surrounding communities.”
