CAH Recognized National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week

Carlinville Area Hospital recognized National Cardiac Rehabilitation Week, February 11-17, 2007. CAH has had a successful Cardiac Rehabilitation Program for the past five years.

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a medically supervised program to help patients with heart disease recover faster and return to full and productive lives. When supervised by a physician, cardiac rehabilitation is beneficial to patients with congestive heart failure, angina, recent heart attack, coronary artery bypass surgery or a balloon catheter (including stint insertion), heart valve replacement or a heart transplant. Almost everyone with heart disease can benefit from some type of cardiac rehab.

CAH’s Cardiac Rehab Program is a 12-week program, three times a week for one-hour sessions. The program offers exercise training to help patients learn how to exercise safely, strengthen muscles and improve stamina. The exercise plan is based on the patient’s individual ability, needs and interests. The program also offers education, counseling and training to help patients understand their heart condition and find ways to reduce the risk of future heart problems. The cardiac rehab team helps patients learn how to cope with the stress of adjusting to a new lifestyle and to deal with fears about the future.
