Cancer treatment for patients in the Carlinville area will be far more convenient, thanks to the addition of Springfield Clinic’s Infusion Services at Carlinville Area Hospital. Leonard Giannone, MD, a specialist in Hematology & Oncology at Springfield Clinic’s Cancer Center, has expanded his Carlinville outreach practice to include the administration of infusion therapy. The new service will benefit hundreds of local patients.
Dr. Giannone, who has cared for cancer patients in the area for many years, travels to Carlinville on Tuesdays to deliver chemotherapy with the same attention to quality and safety that patients receive in Springfield. Two specially trained nurses, both with certification in chemotherapy administration and oncology certification, assist him with the mixing and dispensing of chemotherapy treatment.
“There’s been a significant increase in the number of patients we see in Carlinville, especially within the past two years,” said Dr. Giannone. “By offering infusion services here at the hospital, we make treatment more comfortable and convenient, which makes life for our patients and their caregivers so much easier.’’
The newly renovated space, located in the former Cardiopulmonary Department of the main hospital, features a comfortable waiting area and four treatment stations. Patients should plan to check in prior to each visit and are reminded that appointments with Dr. Giannone and the new infusion center should be scheduled with Springfield Clinic by calling 217.528.7541 or 800.444.7541.
An open house for the new space will be held on Thursday, March 2 from 4:30-6:00 p.m. In addition to the new Chemotherapy/Infusion area, guests can also view the newly remodeled Cardiopulmonary, Cardiac Rehab and Inpatient Therapy areas. Light refreshments will be provided.
