Carlinville Area Hospital Announces New Leadership Team

Carlinville Area Hospital is excited to announce the restructuring of its executive leadership team to meet the needs of the growing organization. This includes the appointment and promotion of several internal health care executives who have stepped into senior leadership positions in various capacities throughout the Hospital. The executives’ roles are aligned with their leadership talents in an effort to help support the Hospital’s renewed commitment to growth and the development of an even stronger medical community.

Brian Burnside, who began his role as Chief Executive Officer at the Hospital in August, is an award winning leader in healthcare bringing more than 20 years of experience in profit and non-profit rural community hospitals. “I am thrilled that these leaders rose to the challenge of the newly aligned roles within our organization. These individuals are respected health care leaders with proven track records of success in their specialty areas. I am confident in the leadership we have in place and look forward to the future with our team,” said Burnside.

The appointment of these leaders further solidifies CAH’s commitment defining a culture of excellence and delivering the best health care experience possible.

Meet your Carlinville Area Hospital leaders:

Brian Burnside, Chief Executive Officer

Brian Burnside, a native of Festus, Missouri, who began his role at Carlinville Area Hospital in August, is an award-winning leader in healthcare, bringing more than 20 years of CEO experience. His organizations have been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review as “Top 150 Places to Work in Healthcare” and with Press Ganey’s “Summit Award-Top 5% Patient Satisfaction” for 5 consecutive years. Professionally, he has been honored with the “Iowa Hospital Association-Young Executive Achievement Award” and the “Texas Hospital Association-Outstanding Rural CEO of the Year”. Brian leads with the principles of strategic and market growth. When coming on board earlier this fall, Brian immediately began to align his strengths of culture enhancement, community engagement and service line growth to help set a new course for the Hospital. Brian earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Finance at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, as well as his Master’s Degrees in Business Administration and Health Services Administration from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH.

Patrick Nudo, Chief Financial Officer

Patrick Nudo has been in healthcare finance for nearly 20 years, with the last 10 years in various leadership roles. These roles include experience in hospital, physician group, consulting, and fiscal intermediary settings. Patrick accepted the role of Chief Financial Officer at CAH in December 2020 and looks forward to enhancing the financial activities of the entire organization as well as provide analysis and optimize productivity. Patrick has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Robert Morris University based in Chicago, IL.

Jessica Barkley, Chief Nursing and Quality Officer

Jessica Barkley has been a nurse for 14 years. For the past 9 years, Jessica has been in various leadership roles, most recently as the Director of Quality Improvement and Risk Management. Jessica accepts her new role of Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Quality Officer with vitality for healthcare quality, patient safety, and compassionate care for our patients and community. Jessica completes her Masters of Nursing through Purdue University in Hammond, IN with a Nurse Executive focus in the summer of 2021. She is certified in Healthcare Quality through CPHQ and holds a Certification in Corporate Compliance.

Tracy Koster, Chief Operating Officer

Tracy Koster has been in a Hospital leadership role at CAH for the past 15 years with an emphasis in Human Resources and Community Outreach while also overseeing Laboratory, Radiology and Outpatient Rehabilitation. Tracy has accepted the role of Chief Operating Officer as she looks forward to continuing to make a positive impact within the Hospital and the communities it serves. Tracy has a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Ohio University in Athens, OH and holds a Rural Hospital CEO Certification from the National Rural Health Association and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Sara McPeak, Chief Specialty Services Development Officer

Sara McPeak has been in Hospital Nursing Administrative positions for over 30 years promoting the belief that a focus on people and quality produces the best patient experiences. Sara has been at CAH for 8 years in the position of Chief Nursing Officer. She recently accepted the role of Chief Specialty Services Development Officer and looks forward to facilitating greater access to specialty services for the community. Sara has her Master’s Degree in Management from National-Louis University in Chicago, IL.

Jamie Bray, Special Projects Executive

Jamie Bray has been dedicated to Carlinville Area Hospital Association, Foundation and Auxiliary since 2007. She has served as the Executive Director of the Foundation, Auxiliary Liaison, Director of Patient Access and now the additional new role of Special Projects Executive. Jamie brings an excellent blend of leadership, patient relations, and process improvement skills to her expanded role and looks forward to working with the team of Hospital leaders. Jamie has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration Management from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL.

Ed Smith, Plant Operations Director

Ed Smith has been in a Hospital leadership role for over 29 years and has held the title of Plant Operations Director for 19 years. Ed’s primary responsibility is directing and ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of the Hospitals facilities, machinery and equipment. In addition to managing several key plant operations functions, Ed also oversees both the Dietary and Housekeeping Departments as well as playing a large role in the Hospital’s Emergency Preparedness Team. Ed looks forward to working with the leadership team and believes the current and added strength of these leaders will help the Hospital further its mission of excellence and growth. Ed has a Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive and Diesel Mechanics from Quincy Technical Institute in Quincy, IL.

Jerod Cottingham, Information Technology Director

Jerod Cottingham has worked in the area of computer technology for 22 years and has served as the Information Technology Director at the Hospital for 16 years. In addition to IT Director, Jerod also holds the title of HIPAA Security Officer, focusing on the protection of patient data and cybersecurity practices to safeguard the Hospital’s network and computer systems. Jerod is excited to continue his role on the Hospital’s Executive Team and work with a progressive and innovative group of leaders. Jerod has a Bachelor’s Degree in Administrative Information Systems from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.
