Carlinville Area Hospital & Clinics Opens Brand-New Clinic In Virden, IL

(CARLINVILLE, Ill.) — Carlinville Area Hospital & Clinics recently announced the opening of its brand-new Rural Health Clinic in Virden, expanding its primary care services in Macoupin County and reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to the rural communities it serves. Staffed by Harald Lausen, DO, along with Nurse Practitioners Anna Maria Lentini, Jessica Heil, and Jennifer K. Tinsley, the Virden Clinic provides expert, compassionate primary care services for patients in Virden and surrounding communities, along with laboratory, x-ray, and therapy services coming summer 2025.

“The opening of the Virden Clinic is a tremendous step in establishing Carlinville Area Hospital & Clinics as a national leader in rural medicine,” said President & CEO Brian Burnside. “This expansion illustrates our renewed focus on primary care services and the hospital’s continued evolution into a comprehensive rural health system. We’re excited to take on the healthcare challenges facing the residents of Virden and surrounding areas by connecting them to the expert medical care they need close to home.”

Since opening in March, the Virden Clinic has treated a total of 593 patients, including 369 walk-in patients (92 new and 277 established) and 224 primary care patients (88 new and 136 established). Additionally, patients from 19 communities have traveled to the Virden Clinic for care, underscoring the importance of the facility not just for residents of Virden, but for those living in surrounding communities too.

Burnside and other leaders from the hospital and the Virden community broke ground on the new clinic in June 2024. After nine months of construction, the Virden Clinic opened its doors with an open house event on March 27, 2025. The Virden Clinic is located at 1611 N. Springfield St. and is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Patients may be seen by appointment, with same-day appointments available.
