Getting older can be difficult. The issues affecting senior citizens — physical, mental, and emotional — are uniquely challenging. But they don’t have to be faced alone. Senior Behavioral Health from Carlinville Area Hospital & Clinics is a program providing behavioral health services for senior citizens designed to foster healing and help patients return to their optimal life. Designed to address and manage the emotional needs and health issues that come with aging, Senior Behavioral Health offers guidance and attention from experienced behavioral health professionals, allowing patients to enjoy an improved lifestyle and better overall well-being.

Guidance for Life’s Challenges
Senior Behavioral Health takes a multidisciplinary approach to each patient’s care. The treatment team, along with family members and a primary care provider, consists of a medical director, program director, nurse, primary therapist, and clerk. Services offered through Senior Behavioral Health include the following:
- Confidential group, individual, or family therapy
- Medication management based on behavioral health diagnosis
- Care coordination with the primary care provider
Patients may be referred to Senior Behavioral Health by their primary care provider or family members, but they may also self-refer. Patients should consider enrolling if they experience any of the following symptoms:
- Anger
- Anxiety or nervousness
- Changes in sleep patterns or eating habits
- Depressed mood
- Difficulty concentrating
- Difficulty coping with health or physical changes
- Feelings of hopelessness or helplessness
- Isolation or loneliness
- Low self-esteem
- Personality changes
- Unresolved grief
